BathRoom Renovation -- Day Twenty Three & Twenty Four

Day 23. Sheetrocking continues.
Day 24. Electrical work. Running new wires from the electrical panels to the bathroom is not included in the original scope of work (Even though I knew it was going to need to be done.) So here's an additional $600 of labor and materials. There's reverse polarity in many of my outlets. As long as the floor to the basement was exposed, it made sense to correct this in the bathroom (see link on reverse polarity.) In addition, I'm probably going to add to the scope of work by having electrical circuits pulled into the upstairs (our bedroom) as the ceiling is also accessable right now.
After tonight's portion of electrical was completed, there was more sheetrocking, as you can see, most of the sheet rock on the two walls has been completed. I wanted you to be able to see the pond right from the window in the shower (second picture.)
98 hours of labor (just under $5400)plus $600 in electrical plus ($1500) spent on the materials. A total of $7500. I anticipate this going to about $12000 at the end of the project.

BathRoom Renovation - Day Twenty, Twenty One, Twenty Two

Sunday and Monday, Hubby / Contractor worked on some of the sheet rock in the nooks. Tonight, he filled the tub (see picture of water in the tub). No leaks! YEAH! Tomorrow night there will be major plumbing. Tonight he did a lot more sheet rock. AND I HELPED. I can really say WE did the sheetrock. Yup, last night I held the sheet rock in place while he drilled in the screws. And tonight he held the sheet rock in place while I got to use the drill (Oh I'm so cool, I can use a drill.) So clearly WE put up the sheet rock. Hubby is definitely giving me my nooks -- see them! Now we're trying to decide how high to have the tile -- generally, tile is 4 feet high, but we might make it a little taller - to the top of the nooks. At this point there's been 92 hours of labor (just under $5000) in addition to monies ($1500) spent on the materials. We still have to buy the vanity/sink combo.

BathRoom Renovation - Day Nineteen

Another 3 hours of plumbing work. A plastic piece is broken so the tub plumbing isnt complete yet. Hopefully a new piece will come into tomorrow. After the plumbing, hubby contractor did more work on the back wall with the sheet rock. He also sheetrocked the nooks. My daughter wants a bathroom for next weekend. When I told her there wouldnt be one, she asked for a bucket. She'll need two, one for a shower and one for a toilet.

BathRoom Renovation - Day Eighteen

Sheetrock on the back wall, but note that my nooks are there! Thank you hubby! That big piece of plywood is my window looking at upon Asher's Koi Pond.
A lot of work in the basement bathroom ceiling working on the plumbing. The ceiling in the bathroom downstairs is totally shot. It got ruined years ago when there was a slow leak in the upstairs toilet. That's one of the problems when doing construction -- there's always something else. We had no choice but to take down the ceiling in the basement to get to the plumbing. Since the ceiling is in such bad shape, it cant be put back up. We'll worry about it another time. A broken piece of plumbing was removed. Now the hubby contractor is working on the sheet rock on the back wall. Some of the sheet rock cant go up until the plumbing is completed in case the bath tub has to be moved. My mother sent me a $25 coupon for Lowes to use when I buy the vanity and a $10 coupon for when I buy the tile trim. Yea MOM! I do miss having a bathroom. Tomorrow morning Charlie (my work partner) and I have to leave at 7:15am to go to Trenton -- and when I use the bathroom in both my room and the shower in the basement I have to be super quiet so I dont wake hubby or son (Son put in a 12 hour work day on his feet today.)

BathRoom Renovation - Day Seventeen

Well the last few days we've dedicated to summer. Today is Labor Day. We went to the Lake yesterday and to New Hope today. Tomorrow starts real life again! But we did get a few hours (3 hours) in the bathroom tonight. Our goal was to get the bath rub out of my daughter's bedroom (Yea, we met our goal.) And WE (really we, a we that includes me) WE moved the bathtub into the bathroom. Later we'll make sure the tub is level and do the plumbing (OK, this part of we doesnt actually include me.) The bathroom is beginning to take on the look a bathroom. Sweet hubby cut out my soap/razor nook. Yea!

BathRoom Renovation Day Sixteen

We're preparing bathroom for the bathtub. The bottom of the backwall has the sheetrock and a brace for the tub. But if you look closely at the sheetrock below my planned nooks, you'll notice my soap/razor nook is missing. I wrote a note on the sheetrock reminding the contractor that the nook belongs there!!! Meanwhile, my parents come in 10 days... the chances of having a bathroom (at a rate of 3-4 hours a day 5 days a week) would be --- anyone want to bet??????
